10 Most Destructive Dog Breeds

A dog may be a man’s best friend, but they’re often a liability, as well. Some dogs can just be destructive when it comes to your home and your personal property. To make matters worse, the damage your dog causes to your house can’t be filed on your homeowners insurance.

If you’re thinking about getting a dog but worried about the damage that he’s going to do to your place, here are ten dog breeds you want to stay away from:

  1. Basset Hounds. Yes, they’re cute. Sure, they always look sad and even a little bit pitiful. But make no mistake, they’ll chew up door frames and scratch your floors like nobody’s business.
  2. Beagles. Snoopy lived outside for a reason. If he’d have been an inside dog, there’s a good chance every potted plant in the house would be strewn all over the floor on a daily basis.
  3. Boxers. These little guys are tough, and they can be truly mean to your stuff, too.
  4. Dachshunds. Wiener dogs have a terrible habit of destroying your property. At least they look cool doing it.
  5. Bulldogs. Is this really a surprise to anyone?
  6. English Setter. For some reason, this breed has  a penchant for making its mark on your home.
  7. Whippet. They may look sweet, but inside is a little demon who can’t wait to ruin your carpets.
  8. Mastiff. Big dogs knock stuff over. It’s just simple physics, when you get right down to it.
  9. Chihuahua. Like many smaller breeds, these dogs can be especially difficult to potty train. Combine that with their tendency to be hyperactive, and the bill for repairs adds up fast.
  10. Great Dane. Marmaduke may be about to hit the big screen, but he’s more likely to hit your wallet as you pay to replace just about every piece of your home.
